2) BUY EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT
In the past, Pendance has screened at massive venues and sellouts have been rare if not unheard of. 540 seats at the Regent or 420 at TIFF Bell Lightbox were a blessing, but as we temporarily shift to a smaller venue, sellouts are certainly expected. With only 130 seats per screening, we recommend you buy early. This has been a reason for our slow rollout as well.
3) When at the Venue
Pendance protects the rights of all patrons to enjoy a healthy and vibrant environment. Please be kind and respectful when at the venue. A red carpet and media wall will be set up in the lobby, snacks will be available for purchase, and each screening is scheduled to include at least one or more Q&As. Please be respectful of filmmakers and the venue. Screenings will start at their scheduled time as we tend to. For those who do not have a pass, please show up at least fifteen minutes before the screening to ensure you have a good shot at a seat, and buy online to avoid the hassle.
We would like to avoid cash or debit as much as possible at the venue itself, so please consider buying your ticket beforehand via the website. Passholders will be on a list and upon arriving for your first screening, please find the volunteer in the lobby who can give you your physical pass (and hoodie if you’ve purchased a VIP pass).
If you have purchased a VIP pass, please email us separately at programming@pendancefilmfestival.com with your name, order confirmation and the size of hoodie you’ll need to ensure we have your size on hand.
FAQ
Q: I bought a pass but can’t use it. Can I transfer it off to someone else?
A: No problem! Please email us ahead of making this change but this should be no issue.
Q: Can I buy a pass to be donated to someone else?
A: Also no problem! Please just email us to specify that your pass is for donation to someone and we’ll happily gift it to someone who couldn’t afford one.
Q: What are the filmmaker hangs? We’re still in the process of finalizing some of the social components outside the screenings, but we’re guaranteed to have at least 2 lunches for the filmmakers in attendance so they’re given a chance to get to know each other. This can be a fantastic time to meet some awesome artists. Passholders are able to access these meetups.
A: Totally! So many of the films selected are screening for the first time in Canada, North America or in the world. Being part of that sure feels cool.
Q: Can I interact with the filmmakers?
A: Most screenings are accompanied by a director, or cast and crew Q&A hosted by Pendance. These discussions are illuminating and provide so much context and insight into the film or films you’ve just watched. Additionally, several filmmakers do make themselves available in the lobby directly after the screening.
