Let Them Be Naked is an audacious exploration into the presence of toxic and often harmful chemicals in the fabrics and materials used in our everyday clothing. Since his mother’s death from breast cancer, designer and activist Jeff Garner has spearheaded a campaign to uncover the health implications of exposure to these chemicals and the urgent need for more ethical production of garments.
His advocacy has created relationships with research organizations and innovators across the globe, all leading the conversation surrounding unregulated toxins in the fashion industry. By partnering with these passionate revolutionaries, Jeff reimagines the development and production of everyday garments to inspire a new era of conscious and responsible fashion that prioritizes the health and wellbeing of people and the planet.
Born and raised on a horse farm in Tennessee, to a family rooted in Cherokee heritage, Jeff’s unique mixture of influences are the source of the unbridled spirit witnessed in his work. In addition to design, he is a poet, speaker, carpenter, inventor, scientist, farmer, horseman & sustainable activist.
His short documentary film, “One Dress at a Time”, premiered at Monaco Film Festival shortly after his Princess Grace Collection catwalk at Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo, for HSH Prince of Monaco called, Grace, A symbol of change. (2012). Mr. Garner had a Vogue top ten Oscar dress that Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding wore at the 84th annual academy awards made of hemp silk and dyed with Indigo.
Mr. Garner was on the Smithsonian Channel as one of the top ’40 under 40′ artists – his designs are permanently on display at the Smithsonian and also named emerging designer of the year in 2013 at Paris Fashion week.
The documentary, Remastered: Prophetik, showcasing Mr. Garner’s natural dyeing techniques and passion, won an Emmy for documentary in Culture & Art (2019) and is streaming on Amazon Prime.
Garner has been a speaker on Tedx Talks in Glasgow, Scotland titled “Sustainable Fashion & the Toxic Effects of Fashion” (2019) & The Darin Olien (Down to Earth series) Podcast called, “Sustainable Fashion for the Future” and included in Darin’s book Fatal Conveniences. (2023).
