The 8th Annual Pendance Film Festival takes place

The 8th Annual Pendance Film Festival takes place February 27th through March 2nd in downtown Toronto. Tickets for individual screenings on sale January 29th, festival passes on sale now.

Pendance is proud to present 11 short films from Canada and abroad in our non-competition special screening section. Featuring emerging directors, several world premieres and the brilliant short film 'Dammi' by Yann Mounir Demange starring Riz Ahmed.

These short films cover the full spectrum of genres and emotions. You'll laugh at Julia Hogg's 'Bus' before you cry for Minerva Marie Navasca's 'Desync'. Get the blood pumping with the adrenaline-packed 'Rainbow Beach' by Adam Seward before counting sheep in 'Dreaming Souls' by Ewa Maria Narbutt.

Pendance is also very proud to welcome back Noah J. Brown, the director of Wireman (Pendance 2021) with his most recent work 'Within The Leaves'.

28 International Short Films will be making Canadian, North American and World Premieres at Pendance 2025.

Our festival started on a snowy night in 2017 as an exhibition of 17 short films and we've been obsessed ever since.

Each year, the shorts programme is an opportunity to exhibit the best and brightest voices from around the world and therefore bring a bit of the world to Canada.

We can't wait to welcome these incredible talents to Toronto next month.

From British Columbia to the coasts of Nova Scotia, we are always proud to stand for and stand with Canadian filmmakers.

22 Canadian short films set an all-time record for Pendance. And we couldn't be happier to announce that seven of these incredible selections are by Pendance Alumni.

Among the alumni selected, Amelia Moses (2021, Bleed With Me), Erica Orofino (2022, She Keeps Me), Ryan Terk (2021, There's Nothing You Can Do), Ethan Godel (2020, Rise Directors Lab), Eli Spiegel (2023, Mayonnaise) Mark Raso (2017, Under) and Aidan Lesser (2022, Barbara).

We're so proud of these 22 films. These filmmakers are the future of Canadian cinema...and the future is very bright.

On April 20 and 21, 2024, Pendance alumna @mstorilarsen is hosting an incredible screenwriters lab at Green Acres Lakeside Resort on beautiful St Mary Lake, Salt Spring Island.

Designed and facilitated by award-winning screenwriter and story consultant Tori Larsen with experience in Hollywood, Canadian, European, and independent film, this lab will give writers the tools needed to craft compelling feature, pilot, or short screenplays. Through engaging sessions, on-the-page analysis of produced screenplays, and proven writing exercises, students will acquire a solid understanding of the fundamentals of story, character, dialogue, structure, tone, theme, genre, industry standard formatting, and on-the-page dos and don’ts.

ABOUT TORI

Tori Larsen has worked in film and television for the past fifteen years on productions such as SCOTT PILGRIM, DEVIL, SUITS, 11.22.63, and THE HANDMAID’S TALE, for studios including Hulu, Netflix, MGM, and Warner Brothers, and has pitched at all major studios in Hollywood and broadcasters in Canada.

As a screenwriter, Tori has been recognized by The Nicholl Fellowship, Austin Film Festival, Writer’s Guild Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, and has received mentorship from multiple Academy Award winning screenwriters.
